The 48-month problem

Hostinger’s headline prices are real, but they require a four-year commitment paid upfront. The honest yearly-billing renewal numbers tell a different story:

• Premium: £2.99 intro → £10.99 renewal — a 3.7x cliff
• Business: £3.99 intro → £13.99 renewal — a 3.5x cliff
• Cloud Startup: £7.99 intro → £20.99 renewal — a 2.6x cliff

VPS uses a 24-month intro term rather than 48, and the cliffs are slightly less savage but still meaningful. KVM 4 is the worst VPS jumper (£9.99 → £24.99, a 2.5x bump), where KVM 2 is only 1.86x. That makes KVM 2 the cheapest “real” VPS tier at renewal: £12.99/mo for 2 vCPU / 8 GB RAM beats KVM 1 on price-per-spec the moment you start paying renewal rates.

UK data centre and compliance

Hostinger runs a London data centre that’s available across shared hosting, managed WordPress, cloud, VPS, and agency products at no regional surcharge. This is unusual at Hostinger’s price point — many competitors at the entry-tier price band lack a UK PoP entirely.

On GDPR / data residency: Hostinger publishes Data Processing Addenda referencing EU SCCs and is GDPR-compliant. Hostinger Inc. itself is based in Cyprus with operations in Lithuania; for UK B2B procurement requiring strict “no data leaves the UK” residency, the customer site data physically resides in London, but the operational layer touches the EU. Same caveat as Kinsta. For most UK SMBs this is fine; for regulated B2B contracts, flag in procurement.

Self-hosting on Hostinger VPS — the n8n / AI angle

This is where Hostinger genuinely differentiates from Kinsta, WP Engine, and the other managed hosts that show up in the same Google searches. 3. The Kodee AI assistant — Hostinger’s own ops chatbot that handles common server tasks (open a port, restart a service, check logs) inside the VPS panel. Less impressive than the templates themselves but lowers the friction floor for Linux-novice users.

Hostinger’s recommended VPS tier for n8n is KVM 2 ( £12.99/mo renewal). KVM 1 will run n8n, but anything that calls external LLM APIs (Claude, GPT, etc.) or runs lightweight local AI nodes will exhaust the 4 GB RAM under any real load.

When KVM 2 is enough

If your n8n workload looks like one of these, KVM 2 is fine:

• Personal automation flows — Calendly → Notion, Stripe → Slack, etc.
• Calling external LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter) from n8n nodes. The inference happens at the API provider; n8n just orchestrates.
• Light retrieval-augmented workflows hitting cloud vector DBs (Pinecone, Supabase, etc.) where the embedding compute is offloaded.
• Webhook receivers with modest throughput (under ~50 concurrent workflows).

When you need KVM 4 or higher

KVM 4 ( £24.99/mo renewal) is the realistic minimum if any of these apply:

• Running local LLMs alongside n8n — Ollama hosting a quantized 7B model needs 5–8 GB RAM minimum, leaving little headroom for n8n itself on a KVM 2.
• Queue-mode n8n with multiple workers — each worker needs its own RAM allocation.
• Self-hosted vector DBs (Qdrant, Postgres + pgvector, Weaviate) — these are RAM-hungry and benefit from more vCPU for indexing.
• High-velocity webhook ingestion where Node.js event-loop saturation matters.

KVM 8 is overkill for almost any solo/team automation use case, but starts to make sense if you’re running multiple separate AI/automation projects on the same box.

The “LLM hosting” reality check

Hostinger publishes a dedicated “LLM Hosting” landing page at hostinger.com/vps/llm-hosting. Under the hood, it’s the same KVM VPS lineup with the Ollama + Llama 3 + Open WebUI one-click template highlighted. Two things to be honest about:

1. The page is USD-only. There’s no GBP equivalent URL and no GBP price shown until you reach checkout. UK buyers researching “LLM hosting UK” don’t see what they’ll pay until they’re committing.
2. There is no GPU. Every Hostinger VPS is CPU-only. “LLM hosting” here means CPU inference via Ollama, which is workable for quantized models up to about 7B parameters on KVM 4 or 13B on KVM 8 — but inference is slow (single-digit tokens per second under load) and not suitable for realtime chat UX.

The privacy and sovereignty angle
